The National University Teaching Awards (NUTA) has as its objective to promote academics’ abilities, and recognition, as teachers through improved coordination and integration, greater collaboration and consistent and equitable access to opportunities at different stages of their professional careers.

The aims of NUTA include, amongst others, to:

  • Increase the reach and widen stakeholder ownership of the award and includes stakeholders such as the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET), the Council on Higher Education (CHE), the Higher Education Learning and Teaching Association of Southern Africa (HELTASA), and Universities South Africa (USAF).
  • Elevate the University Teaching Awards Programme as a valued and highly recognisable brand in the university sector and beyond.
  • Create an enabling environment for academics from universities that have been unrepresented or under-represented.

To this end, HELTASA invites all public higher education institutions and interested individuals to a webinar where the NUTA Framework and the NUTA Processes and Procedures will be discussed. Focus areas of the webinar will include:

  • What is NUTA about?
  • Who may participate?
  • How will participation be supported?
  • Will there be mentorship and support for institutions and individuals who wish to submit?
